Luigi gets his own game!
Luigis mansion was the first game I played on my shiny new gamecube console and its a fun -but perhaps a little short- launch title. The plot (Luigi wins spooky mansion... Mario is missing etc) isnt exactly award winning, but thats not really the point of this game.
The graphics are pretty good and everything has a cartoon feel to it, with Luigi comically stumbling around as the reluctant hero. The semi-transparent ghosts look especially nice and, with this being a Nintendo game, the gameplay is great too. This is a title that rewards a little exploration and experimentation, as there are a few secrets to discover along the way too...
The only real problem with Luigis Mansion (and launch games in general) is its short length, but while it lasts it is definitely a fun title to play. Overall then, this is a game worth owning as long as you are not expecting an epic experience.

Luigi cleans up
For all die hard Nintendo fans, this is a must buy. In this release game, its not the usual Mario brother bashing the badies. This time it falls to Luigi.

Luigis won a mansion in a competition he didnt enter, something dodgy going on there!! When he gets there he finds the place riddled with ghosts, and no sight of Mario. After a quick look around, and some other worldly experiences, you meet Professor E. Gadd, inventor of the Poltergust 3000, your weapon to fend off the ghouls. This game gives you good insight of the capabilities of the new style controler, you need nearly all the buttons to play this game. After a brief introduction to ghost catching, its off the mansion for some serious hunting.
Walking in and out of dark rooms, you can hear Luigi nervously whistling or humming the theme tune. The graphics are lovely. When Luigi shines his torch about you can see dust floating in the air. The flickering candles and the dripping taps all add to the atmosphere.
Catching the ghosts is quite easy, once you get used to the controls, and herein lies one of the main faults of the game. Once youve caught one of the big ghosts, other than trying to find new ways to surprise them, youve caught them all. The most challenging ghosts to catch are actually the Boos, once youve released them that is. To catch a Boo you have to direct Luigi with the control stick and the c stick.
The game is also surprisingly short. Its possible to finish the game in a couple of days of serious playing.
The idea behind the game is fresh though, and youll be laughing after 5 minutes play. If this is any indication of things to come from the big N, we should be getting excited.

Luigis Mansion(Gamecube)
Wow, What a fun game. Imagine being able to play a realistic "Ghostbusters" game because basically thats what this is, or so it would seem on the surface but dig deeper and you will discover that theres more to this title than meets the eye..The path through the game is fairly linear but that doesnt distract from the pleasure it gives and its never that frustrating, You always want to see what the next room has in store..Each room in the mansion has at least one ghost to be captured and once that room is free of ghosts the light comes on..Capturing the ghosts is done using a vacuum cleaner (basically) that Luigi wears on his back but if its used for too long at a time it catches fire and the ghost escapes, but get the timing right and the ghost is history..
turn all the lights on in the Mansion to completely exorcise it..The game has lots of lovely little touches such as Luigi whistling the games theme tune and when hes frightened or his health is low it sounds trembly.

Luigis Mansion may seem a little short to experienced players but the re-play values mean that you will always want to find that last secret that eluded you before, Every so often there will be a big ghost(boss)to tackle and once he is dispached the hoover is emptied at the laboratory...Thats all im telling because I dont want to spoil it for you, but if your a Mario fan then this is an essential purchase..
